Pursuing the American Dream: From Puerto Rico to a Franchise with Build A Bear to Vision of Health for Children.
As a young couple, my parents embarked on a monumental journey, leaving behind the vibrant landscapes of Puerto Rico in pursuit of the American dream. Their hopes were simple yet profound: to create a life filled with opportunities and a brighter future for their children. I am the youngest of five siblings, raised in the bustling environment of the United States—a land that, to me, embodies the mantra of dreaming big, where almost anything feels possible. The pursuit of dreams and the quest for a better life have been the guiding forces in my life, providing a red thread woven through my experiences.
One of my proudest achievements has been establishing The Build A Bear Franchise in the Benelux. This venture became more than just a business; it was a springboard for my aspirations. Throughout the journey, I learned invaluable lessons about creating a concept anchored in long-term vision and passion. However, when the time came to sell the franchise, I found myself enveloped in a mix of nostalgia and sadness. I began to miss the joyful family gatherings, the laughter of children, and the big dreams that had fueled our enterprise.
In that moment of reflection, I recalled a saying I had always held dear: “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” But this time, the lemonade would be different. It would be a healthy alternative—an all-natural syrup with 0% added sugar, no artificial colors or sweeteners—crafted to provide the best possible drink option for children. This new vision reignited my passion and purpose, transforming my melancholy into motivation.
Driven by a desire to create something meaningful, I embarked on the ambitious project of developing a 100% natural syrup. My journey took me across Europe, where I became the first to introduce a syrup made solely from fruit juice concentrate and Stevia. The early days were fraught with challenges; I knocked on countless doors, faced skepticism, and encountered many who told me it was a bad idea. Yet, with each rejection, I grew more determined to find my “yes.”
Through resilience and unwavering belief in my vision, I eventually garnered support and launched my product. Today, I stand as a testament to the power of vision and determination. My story is not just about creating a successful business but also about showing that dreams are achievable with hard work and persistence. As I look back on my journey, I am reminded that the essence of the American dream lies not just in achieving success but in the relentless pursuit of something greater. My parents set the foundation, and I strive to honor that legacy by inspiring others to dream big and never give up on their aspirations.
